Return to Function / Sport After Surgery
Being “healed” after surgery is not the same as being ready to return to normal life, work, or sport.
Many people reach a point where pain has reduced, but they still feel:
weak
stiff
unsure about training
nervous about reinjury
not confident with higher-level movement
At Physora Physio, we provide structured rehabilitation to help you return to function and sport after surgery with clear progression, strength rebuilding, and objective reassessment.
Who this pathway is for
This service is ideal if you are:
Returning to sport after ACL reconstruction
Returning after meniscus or cartilage surgery
Rebuilding after knee replacement or hip replacement
Returning after shoulder surgery
Recovering after ankle or foot surgery
Cleared by your consultant but still not confident
Struggling to progress past the “basic rehab” stage
Why this stage matters
Many people stop rehab too early.
This often leads to:
ongoing weakness and reduced capacity
recurring pain flare-ups
poor confidence in sport movement
re-injury during return to training
difficulty returning to running, jumping or lifting
This phase is where you rebuild the ability to tolerate real-life and sport demands.
What we focus on
Your programme is designed to rebuild the foundations required for function and sport.
1) Strength and symmetry
We rebuild strength and reduce side-to-side differences, especially in single-leg tasks.
2) Movement control under load
We improve control during squats, lunges, landing, and change of direction (where relevant).
3) Capacity and conditioning
We build endurance and tolerance so you can handle longer sessions, higher intensity, and fatigue.
4) Sport-specific progression
If your goal is sport, we progress you through the movements your sport requires.
Objective testing and reassessment
Progression should be guided by evidence, not guesswork.
Where appropriate, we use:
strength and control benchmarks
movement testing
functional performance measures
return-to-training progression planning
This helps improve confidence and reduce reinjury risk.
Technology-assisted movement assessment (when useful)
Depending on your surgery and goals, we may include:
Posture and movement screening
Squat screening and movement analysis
Functional movement screening
Biomechanical assessment
This helps identify the limiting factors that often remain after surgery, even when pain is low.
What you can expect
This pathway is designed to help you:
return to normal daily function confidently
rebuild strength and stability
improve movement quality
progress toward running and training
return to sport safely (where appropriate)
reduce the risk of reinjury and setbacks
